Spring is in the Air

Hello Readers! Hope you enjoy your stay on such a lovely spring day! I am so sorry that I have not updated my post in awhile. I had very bad allergies from the pollen and had to go to the doctor, but I am well again and enjoying the nice break we are having from the rain. I have planted a few things and have started my own vegetable garden too.

I was inspired to try to make some dish towels to be put away for the future. The best way to obtain them is of course to make them myself. I crocheted this one with a double crotchet stitch. I am now trying to make a baby blanket for my hope chest.
Here are some evidence of spring:

I wandered lonely as a cloud
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of daffodils -William Wordsworth

Irises
Peach Blossoms
A few weeks ago, I went on a school field trip to a nursery that is not open to the public. The people there let each of us pick two six-packets of plants. I choose marigolds and strawberries which I planted to-day.
I have never shown you my beautiful violin. It was crafted in Poland, and its tone is so pretty.

This is the current piece I am working on. Concerto in G Minor is by Vivaldi.

Book from my "library:"
Wings Like a Dove by Christine Farenhorst is the story of Jeanne D'Albert who is destined for the throne. Set in 16th Century France, Jeanne courageously hides the French Huguenots under her wing from the cruel Catherine de Medicis.
I highly recommend this book to any girl who loves historical fiction and royalty.
Great Christian book; teaching girls to be brave enough to stand up for what you know is right.
Queen Jeanne D'Albert said this when she was given the opportunity to turn back to the Roman Catholic faith: "If I held my kingdom and my son in my hand, I would rather throw both into the bottom of the sea than attend Mass."
Poetry corner:
The Summer Sun Shone Round About Me
by
Robert Louis Stevenson
The summer sun shone round about me,
The folded valley lay
In a stream of sun and odour,
That sultry summer day.
The tall trees stood in the sunlight
As still as still could be,
But the deep grass sighed and rustled
And bowed and beckoned me.
The deep grass moved and whispered
And bowed and brushed my face.
It whispered in the sunshine:
"The winter comes apace."
Hope that everyone has a lovely weekend.
Love,
Grace

  1. Lovely photos - you've got an artist's eye! I love Robert Louis Stevenson (& Scottish writers (& Scotland) in general). I think it's neat that you are making things for your hope chest. I like to think about baby names for one special day (if God blesses me in that way) - I've also put some things away - a lovely yellow handmade baby dress I got from a crafters' fair when I was in elementary school & some other little notes, items, etc. I love the name Felicity for a little girl. Anyways, I'm rambling on...Thank you for becoming a gal pal!

P.S.: If you need any tips on blogging stuff, let me know (I'm new at this, too, but I've made some discoveries =)).

  3. My mom has some strawberry plants in her garden, and they are really good when they are ripe, of course. :-)
(To go along with what Bess was saying) I can't usually think of any girl names, but I like the names Troy and Anthony. I usually like to pick names because of there meanings, like Theophilus, it means lover of God, Troy means foot soldier, and I am not quite sure what Anthony means, and Thaddeus means heart or peace...something like that. I know I'm still young and that my opinion will probably change, but I like the names Anthony Patrick and Troy Theophilus. :-)

  8. Dear Grace,
Just came across your blog through Lucie Land... and I wanted to drop a line telling you how sweet your blog is! I don't have much blogging time, so I like coming across a kindred spirit like you :). I love Jane Austen, music, J.W. Waterhouse, tea, flowers, books, and especially Narnia, so it would appear we have the same interests! If you have the time or inclination, hop on over to my blog (which may or may not have a recent post on it *wink*): ourspareoom.wordpress.com.
    Blessings,
    ~Meg

  9. Darling Grace! This is Tessa Harcourt, your old violin teacher. This message isn't really meant to be published on your blog since it's not about your blog, but this is the only way I could figure out how to contact you. What a precious, godly young lady you are, Grace! I love your blog and I look forward to keeping up with you on it. Are you on facebook or do you have email that I can keep up with you by? I still love you dearly and have such fond memories of my darling student.=)
